Wirral Waters We Are Thinking Big Again

Thursday 19 July 2012

Your views on the proposals to plant 600 street and greenspace trees in Wirral

'Following this article in the Wirral Globe you said:

'I really hope this project comes off for the next generation'! ....

With more 20-22 year olds moving into Wirral the

future is with them and their children

'Agree we need to green the grot surrounding the docks..'

This planting will lead investors into the docks

area.In time investment will help pay for the

transport and green infrastructure that is essential

to a prosperous working environment

'the trees will have had a good chance to grow by the time

something gets built on Wirral waters'....

We agree, but change can happen faster than you

think, this project is three years long. The main

Wirral Waters site is a 30-40 year project but already

 plans are afoot!!

'Why is someone going to spend all this money, in a recession'....

We think that spending money on the right things in

a recession helps set the scene for future investment

where jobs and a healthier living space is essential to

a more stable place to live and work!

Trees promote well being by encouraging people to

get out and about and to think about walking to

their local shops and amenities instead of taking the

car or bus.

You need connection to your natural environment to

get a sense of the seasons and the colour that this

brings and sense of hope that this fosters is

extremely valuable!

In Liverpool a housing provider was going to

demolish houses, but didn't after investment in the

local green environment. The net result was secured

tenancy, healthier residents and a net saving of 100s

of thousands of pounds. Not just in housing costs but

in the cost of supporting residents into the future.

'How can they spend £1,000,000 on trees now to show that

they are green'?

Fortunately the Council is not having to spend a

penny on the tree planting. It just needs to take on

the future maintenance

 of the trees.

'I do like street trees and the improvements that they bring to

a street - just compare the feel of some of the streets in

Bebington that still have (most) of their trees - e.g. Prince's

Drive to those where they have been lost e.g. Alexandra

Drive'.....

Green Streets uses imaging software to show how a

street looks with trees and without.A tree lined

street adds about 5% to the property value of it's

housing stock.

'yes I am pleasantly surprised by this'.....

We hope you will continue to be and will try our best

to improve your local environment.
